JEFFERSON COUNTY FAIR - QUEEN CONTEST |

The Jefferson County Fair Queen Contest will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Entry blanks and rules may be picked up at the Jefferson County Extension Office. Entry deadline is June 13.
Each contestant must be at least l6 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on August 1, 2008.
Contestants must never have been married or have children. The contestant must reside in Jefferson County or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities are in the county she represents. The County Fair Queen must be available at the Iowa State Fair Tuesday, August 5th, through the time of the crowning Saturday afternoon August 9th. She will need to provide her own transportation.
1. Each contestant must be at least l6 years of age and
not more than 21 years of age on August 1, 2008.
2. Contestants must never have been married or have
children.
3. A county fair queen must reside in the county she
represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her
activities are in the county she represents. If a fair
represents more than one county, the winning contestant
must reside in one of the participating counties.
4. Each contestant must be an active member of at least
one worthwhile organization in her community such as a
church group, Girl Scouts,
4-H, etc. Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership.
5. Each entrant in the Iowa State Fair Pageant must be
selected from a competitive queen contest at her county
fair. If an Iowa fair does not have a contest, it may
sanction another queen contest in their county as the,
“Official County Fair Queen Contest”. The winner of this
is then eligible to compete at the Iowa State Fair.
6. Only winners as indicated under Rule 5 are eligible
to represent counties at the state pageant. Alternates
will be considered in order of selection in event the
queen is unable to participate.
7. No professional model-one who has been employed and
paid a salary for a specific job of modeling-is eligible
for the state pageant.
8. Any contestant who has competed at a State Fair
Finals may not compete again.
9. Any county fair queen selected after the 2006 Iowa
State Fair and meeting the above qualifications is
eligible for the 2008 pageant.
10. The Iowa State Fair will accept only one entry per
county. Should there be more than one queen contest in
the county, it will be the responsibility of the fair’s
concerned to hold an elimination contest.
11. It is the responsibility of each contestant to make
arrangements for transportation to and from Des Moines.
Hotel accommodations will be made for the county queen
only.
12. The County Fair queens will be the guests of the
Iowa State Fair through the time of
the crowning.
13. County fairs are requested to select their
candidates in a competitive method in which beauty,
personality and leadership are judged.
14. At the Iowa State fair, the “State Fair Queen” will
be selected by a competent committee. Judging will be
based on the following: Beauty, Charm and Poise,
Personality, Attitude, Appearance and Awareness
Leadership and Citizenship-Contribution to Community
Over-All Appearance. The winner of the state pageant
will be crowned “Miss Iowa State Fair of 2008. “She will
be crowned during the 2008 Iowa State Fair and will
reign over the 2008 Iowa State Fair.
15. The winner of the state pageant must agree to appear
for the Iowa State Fair Board in official capacities as
requested throughout the year until her successor is
crowned. Transportation and expenses for these
appearances will be arranged by the Iowa State Fair.
16. The winning contestant at the Iowa State Fair must
agree to accept no other queen titles nor endorse any
commercial product as “Miss Iowa State Fair” for a
period of 12 months following the 2007 Iowa State Fair
without the written permission of the Iowa State Fair
Board.
17. The winning contestant will receive all the prizes
at the time of the finals with the exception of the $100
savings bond. This bond will be presented to her when
the 2008 Iowa State Fair Queen is selected.
18. Should the 2008 “Miss Iowa State Fair” marry or
become ineligible before the 2008 queen is crowned, she
will forfeit her title, the crown and the rights to the
$100 savings bond to the first runner-up. Should the
first runner-up become ineligible, she will forfeit the
title, crown and the rights to the bond to the second
runner-up.
19. The Iowa State Fair Queen Pageant Committee reserves
the right to change the foregoing rules and regulations
at any time as may be deemed expedient. |

LITTLE MISS CONTEST |
Coordinators:

1. Contest held in conjunction with the Jefferson County Fair Queen contest. Contest will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Interviews will be held on Wednesday, June 25 beginning around noon at the Fairfield Public Library Conference Room. Each contestant will have 15 minutes with the judges. Contestant’s time will be assigned when registration ends.
2. “Little Miss” contestants must pre-register at the Jefferson County Extension Office. Entry fee of $15.00 (sponsors optional), and a copy of the contestant’s birth certificate must accompany entry form. DEADLINE IS JUNE 11, 2008, NO EXCEPTIONS. Open to the first 15 registrants who turn in completed application, registration fee and copy of birth certificate into the Extension Office.
3. Judging will be based on poise, personality, dressing in accordance to theme, overall presentation and response to questions.
4. Any contestant who has performed or competed at a professional level (for monetary gain) in anything other than amateur contests will be considered ineligible.
5. All contestants must be a resident of Jefferson County for at least one year.
6. Contestants may not be older than 8 years of age or younger than 6 years of age by June 1, 2008.
7. Parents and/or chaperones are not allowed in the interview room or the backstage area before or during the contest. Assigned staff will assist contestants if they need help.
8. There will be an on stage presentation and contestants will be asked 1 question at that time.
9. Winner and 1st Runner up will need to be available to help hand out ribbons at assigned shows during the 2008 Jefferson County Fair. Each contestant will receive a participation gift.
10. The theme this year is “Giddy-Up Cowgirls”. No pageant dresses or swimwear allowed. Contestants are allowed to wear long dresses, skirts, jeans/shorts or costumes in accordance with the theme. Contestants will be judged on dressing in accordance with the theme during the interview and on stage presentation.
11. Contest is limited to the first 15 registrations turned in to the Extension Office and no less than 5 contestants.
12. Any arguments about final decisions will be grounds for immediate disqualification. Judges decisions are final.
13. Contestants are invited to ride on a float in the Jefferson County Fair Parade on Tuesday, June 24th at 6:30 p.m. Please be to the high school parking lot by 6:00 p.m.
